I have been speaking to a few of my friends recently about being kinder to yourself. I found myself saying…
Anyway, it’s so much cooler to like yourself these days
…and I think this is true. I don’t know why but it seems to be more acceptable to put yourself down than gracefully glowing and singing your own praises. Don’t get me wrong, I am no beacon of self acceptance, far from it, I regularly make choices that warrant a big forehead palm slap. I think what is key is giving yourself a break and making an effort to put energy behind what you do well instead of hooking on to the negatives. I love having people around me that will challenge me if I’m not truly recognising my worth, this stuff takes time and patience.
I was walking around the supermarket earlier listening to Spotify when the song ‘Thank You’ by Alanis Morissette came on. I am such a melody person when it comes to music so it is rare that lyrics will jump out and grab me. This song is so old and I have heard it numerous times so I had such a gorgeous moment when I connected to the meaning of the song. The line that jumped out was:
How about remembering your divinity?
How bloody wonderful – absolutely – how about remember your divinity!!! The hairs on my arms and neck raised up in the most electrifying way. It fused together what I had been mulling over about self acceptance and in that moment exploded in my head. We are all incredible people on our own little journey filled with abundant brilliance – it’s time to start recognising it, owning and nurturing it and spending time with people that see it and draw it out of you. Delicious!
